Jacques Archambault1,2

     Jacques was born in 1605 in St-Xandre, Aquataine, Poitou-Charentes, France. He was the son of Antoine Archambault & Renee Ouvard.3 Jacques married Francoise Chaveau on 24 January 1629 in Dompierre-sur-Mer, near La Rochelle, Charente, Poitou-Charentes, France.4 He was a farmer & wine maker. Jacques & Francoise, along with their children, immigrated from France to Quebec about 1647.5 Jacques moved from Quebec to Montreal in 1653 and was asked to dig a well by Paul de Chomedey in 1658. This was the first well dug on the Ile de Montreal.6 Jacques's wife, Francoise, died circa 9 December 1663 in Montreal, leaving him a widower. A contract was drawn up by notary Saverin Ameau, for the marriage of Jacques and Marie Deneau. It was signed on 26 January 1666 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. The contract listed her as a widow of Louis Ozanne, and her parents as Elie Denot & Lafont. It also gave Jacque's widow as Francoise Tourault and his father as Antoine Archambault.. 1667, Jacques and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census at Montreal. Enumerated in this household were Jacques Archambaut [62 years] & Marie Denot [60 years].7 1681, Jacques and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census at Montreal. Enumerated in this household were Jacques Archambault [77 years] & Marie Desnot [62 years].7 Jacques departed this life in Montreal. He was buried there in the cemetery of Notre Dame on Sunday, 15 February 1688.8
