     Ethel was born in August 1884 at Williamsburg Township, Franklin County, Kansas.¹ She was the daughter of William Anderson Crawford and Mary Ellen McCurdy. Ethel married Scott Alfred Hester circa 1905. 1905, Ethel and her husband, [ROF:Household Head] were listed on the State Census at Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were L. B. Smith [61 New York], Scott Hester [23 Kansas] & Ethel Hester [20 Kansas].² Her married name was Hester. March 1915, Ethel and her husband, [ROF:Household Head] were listed on the State Census at 835 Quindaro, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Scott Hester [33 Kansas], his wife: Ethel [29 Kansas], Alfred [9 Kansas], Everett [7 Kansas], Margaret [3 Kansas] & George [1 Kansas].³ 14 April 1920, Ethel and her husband Scott were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at 720 Quindaro, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Scott A. Hester [38 Kansas], his wife: Ethel [35 Kansas], Alfred [13 Kansas], Everette [11 Missouri], Margaret [7 Kansas], George [5 Kansas] & his mother-in-law: Mary Kelly [68 Illinois]. Enumerated in this household were Scott A. Hester [47 Kansas], his wife: Jennie E. [46 Kansas], Everett B. [21 Kansas], Margaret E. [18 Kansas] George E. [16 Kansas]. Scott was a messenger for the Express Company; Everett was a clerk at a public library; George worked for a can factory. they owned their home valued at $3500.00.⁶ 15 April 1940, Ethel and her husband Scott were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at 846 Quindaro, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Scott Hesper [57 Kansas], his wife: Ethel [55 Kansas], Margaret [27 Kansas], Alfred [32 Kansas] & their daughter-in-law: Cora [30 Missouri]. They rented their home for $26.00 a month. Scott was a baggage man for the Railway Express; Margaret was "pasting luggage" for the Trunk Manufacturing Co., while Cora Stamped Goods for the same company; Alfred was a cheif inspector for the Gas Company.⁷ Ethel departed this life in June 1965 at Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas, at age 80 years and 10 months. Ethel was laid to rest in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.⁸
