Valentine married Madge Lucile Hart on 7 June 1899 at Michigan. 4 June 1900, Valentine and his wife, Madge, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Valentine Ives [29 Michigan - July 1870], Madge [25 Ohio - January 1875], Janet [2 mos. Michigan-April 1900]. Clara Schaeffer [24 Michigan - August 1875 - servant] They have been married one year with one child. They lived at 1278 Beauview Court.¹ 20 April 1910, Valentine and his wife, Madge, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Valentine S. Ives [39 Michigan], Madge H. [38 Michigan], Janet [10 Michigan], & Thomas [3 Michigan]. They had been married eleven years with two children, two living. He was a commercial business manager. They were living at 165 Wa_ln Ave.² Valentine departed this life in 1917 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, at age 46 years. He died the week of his daughter Janet's high school graduation. Valentine was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.³
