Jonathan was born on Sunday, 15 December 1765 at "Grove Farm", Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York. Jonathan married Ursula Catlin on 4 June 1803. Jonathan & his brother Elijah purchased 6,000 acres of land in Swanton, Vermont. There was a marble quarrey there and they became very vealthy. Only Jonathan & his family resided there. Jonathan had a daughter Helen who often visited her Aunt Anna Seaman, Jonathan's sister. 1820, Jonathan was was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Swanton, Franklin County, Vermont. Enumerated in this household were Johnathan Ferris [23011-21110]. Jonathan departed this life on Thursday, 1 October 1829 in Swanton at age 63 years, 9 months and 16 days. He had been suffering from paralysis.1 He was buried in Swanton, Franklin County, Vermont, in the Church Street Cemetery. The inscription on his memorial read: "Here repose the remains of Jonathan Ferris who was born West Chester, NY Dec. 15, 1765, during 22 years a resident of this town, a large contributor to it's prosperity and died Oct 1, 1829."
