Jane was born on Thursday, 8 August 1839 at Elizabeth Lake, Oakland County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Almeron & Annie Whitehead. She often went by the nickname Jennie. Jane Mais married Mortimer Allen Leggett, son of Augustus Wright Leggett and Eliza Seaman, on 7 April 1858 in Oakland County, Michigan. Jane departed this life on Saturday, 11 July 1874 in Waterford Township at age 34 years, 11 months and 3 days of dropsy of the lungs.¹ She was buried in nearby Pontiac in the Oak Hill Cemetery in plot 1-169.
