     Samuel Mott was born on Monday, 27 March 1820 in Manhattan, New York County, New York, at the family home at 307 Pearl Street. Samuel married Julia Coles on 2 September 1844 at the home of Dr. J. Noyes on 78th Street in the City, County & State of New York. 11 September 1850, Samuel and Julia listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the City, County & State of New York. Enumerated in this household were Samuel M. Leggett [30 New York - merchant], his wife: Julia [31 New York], Oscar [5 New York], Loisa [3 New York], Leviret Coles [24 New York] and 5 servants. He was worth $10,000.4 Samuel married 2nd Deborah Phelps on 23 December 1852 in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan, at the home of Alfred Williams. By Rev. Oliver Taylor. 12 July 1860, Samuel was listed on the U.S. Federal Census. Enumerated in this household were Samul Leggett [40 New York], his wife: Deborah [30 New York], Oscar [16 New York], Julia [13 New York], Ada [6 Michigan] & Alfred [3 Michigan].5 23 August 1870, Samuel was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Commerce Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Samuel Legget [50 New York-farmer], his wife: Deborah [40 New York], Julia C. [23 New York], Addie L. [16 Michigan] & Alfred [13 Michigan]. Samuel married 3rd Lucy A. Cowles on 19 March 1874 in Oakland County, Michigan. Lucy was first married to Daniel A. Britton. Samuel died on Tuesday, 24 July 1883 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, of softening of the brain.6 He was buried at Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan, in the Oak Hill Cemetery.7

LEGGETT, who died July 24th, 1883, without exercising the power of appointment conferred upon him in and by the said will of his said father, and was survived by three children, his only heirs-at-law, as follows:
    Oscar Coles Leggett, who is married to Addie Bird Leggett, and who both reside at Number 140 East Creighton Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
    Julia Coles Whitehead, who resides at Number 57 Smith Avenue, Detroit, Michigan; and Ada L. Smith, who died October 19th, 1909, leaving a last will and two codicils thereto which were duly admitted to probate January 29th, 1910, in the Probate Court of Oakland County, Michigan, under the terms of which said will and codicils she devised all her residuary estate remaining after the payment of certain specific legacies, to her husband, Edward C. Smith for and during his natural life, and on his death to her children then living and to the issue of any deceased child or childrenl That said Ada L. Smith was survived by her said husband, who resides at Pontiac, Michigan, and by the following children and grandchildren:
    Edward C. Smith, Jr., a son, who is married to Mabel Thorpe Smith, and they with their two children, Edward Chester Smith, Third, and Mabel Elmira Smith, both infants under the age of fourteen years, reside at No. 723 Beach Street, Flint, Michigan.
    Tracy S. Smith, a son, who is married to Alice Hadsell Smith, and they with their children Charles Hadsell Smith and Tracy Scoville Smith, both infants under the age of fourteen years, reside at No. 1299 John R. Street, Detroit, Michigan.
    Alfred L. Smith, a son, who is married to Grace Stowell Smith, and they reside at Wakefield, Michigan and have no children.
    Talbot T. Smith, a son, who is unmarried and resides at No. 723 Beach Street, Flint, Michigan.
    Louise Hildner, a daughter, who is the wife of Ernest G. Hildner and they with their children Ernest G. Hildner, Jr., Edward S. Hildner, John G. Hildner and Alfred Leggett Hildner, all infants under the age of fourteen years, reside at No. 303 South Hart Street, Princeton, Indiana.
    The foregoing are all the living descendants of the said Ada L. Smith.
