In the name of God Amen, in the year of our Lord God a thousand five hundred sixty and two and in the fifth year of the reign of our soverign Lady, the Queen Elizabeth of England, France abnd Ireland, defender of the faith and soforth. I, Edward Holton of Stoke Nayland in the county of Suffolk in the diocese of ___, being of a perfect mind and good memory, thanks be unto the Almighty God ... I duly ordain and make this my testament and last will in mind and form follow mye. That is to say first of all, I bequeath my soul to the Almighty God, my Maker and Redeemer and my body to be buried within the cemetery of Stoke Nayland. Item: I, give unto Thomas Holton, my son forty pounds for to be paid at XXI years of age. Item: I give unto Frances, my daughter twenty pounds for to be paid at the day of her marriage or at twenty years of age. Item: I give unto John Hoton, my son my ___ and also I give him the last of the ___ of Stoke Nayland aforesaid and he for to have the ___ ___that my son Thomas is paid his forty pounds and Frances her twenty pounds. And so I do give him the .; so be it that he doth not marry and Thomas h----ys daughter if h--the then he shall loose the benefit of this my last will. Edward departed this life before 2 December 1562 in County Suffolk, England, at the Wiston Manor Farm in the parish of Holton St. Mary's. He was buried at Ipswich, County Suffolk, England, in the yard of the Nayland Church.1 His will was probated on 20 February 1563.
