George Alexander Hise

     George Alexander was born on Sunday, 26 February 1826 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Hise and Eva Elizabeth Kunkel Lare. George married Rebecca Ridgely, daughter of Westall Ridgely and Elizabeth Heim, on 24 August 1848 in Crawford County, Ohio.1 George and Rebecca had children: Alversa [10/04/1849-4/12/1919][m. 1871 William Alexander Snider], George Frank [21/19/1857-7/07/1909][m. 1882 Sarepta Shaffer] & Adolphus [6/00/1866-11/00/1953][m. 1/25 1887 Hannah M. Long]. 3 September 1850, George and his wife, Rebecca, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Geo. Alex. Heise [23 Pennsylvania], Rebecca [21 Ohio], Alversa Ann [8/12 Ohio]. George is a shoemaker. [Note: Listed on this census directly above him is his brother William. Directly above William is their mother, Eva Elizabeth, with her husband and their siblings,Sarah and James - KLM]2 21 July 1870, George and his wife, Rebecca, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bogle Township, Gentry County, Missouri. Enumerated in this household were George Hice [44 Pennsylvania], Rebecca [44 Ohio], Alveresa [20 Ohio], George [12 Missouri] & Aldolphus [4 Missouri]. George is a farmer.3 24 June 1880, George and his wife, Rebecca, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bogle Township. Enumerated in this household were George Hise [53 Pennsylvania], Rebecca [52 Ohio], George Jr. [22 Missouri], Aldolphus [14 Missouri] & a servant: Rachel Summa [39 Indiana]. Father and son are working a farm.4 George's wife, Rebecca, died on 25 December 1893 in Bogle Township leaving him a widower. 26 June 1900, George was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bogle Township. Enumerated in this household were Alexander Hise [74 Pennsylvania - February 1826], Aldolphus [34 Missouri - June 1866], daughter-in-law: Hannah [33 Missouri - May 1867] & John Long [18 Missouri - February 1882]. Aldolphus is a farmer, John is helping with the farming. Adolphus and Hannah have been married 12 years and have had no children. The farm is owned free and clear.5 George departed this life on Thursday, 1 November 1906 in Bogle Township at age 80 years, 8 months and 6 days. He was buried there at Gentry Township in New Friendship Cemetery.1
