     Johann Mathias was born on Saturday, 7 May 1774 in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was christened there on 29 May 1774 in Atolheo Altalaha Luthern Church. His sponsors were Mathias Kampf and his wife.1 Mathias married Maria Susanna Deibeler circa 1796 in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Mathias and Susanna had children: Maria Susanna [2/17/1797-4/05/1866], Juliana [1/23/1799-9/23/1873], Barbara [11/28/1800], Catharine [9/04/1802-2/20/1889][m. Andreas Schmeltz], Hannah [12/23/1804-4/02/1875], Henry [12/23/1804], Anna Maria [3/28/1806-12/19/1879][m. Adam Ritzman], Margareta [1/11/1808-9/23/1873][m. 1827 John Kissinger], Elizabeth [5/11/1810-2/10/1880][m. John Folke], Daniel [10/22/1812-1/22/1894][m. Nancy Bender], Johnathan 4/09/1814-12/06/1853][m. Lydia Klinger], Magdalena [9/19/1816], Martha [8/02/1817-5/12/1877] & Elmira [8/15/1821]. The 1800 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the family of Mathias Hawk [0001:3001].2 The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Upper Paxton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the family of Mathias Hawk [0001:5201].3 Mathias's wife, Maria, died on 12 July 1824 in Lykens Township leaving him a widower. Johann married 2nd Magdalena Riegel in 1825 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Mathias and Magdalena had children: William [3/09/1828-1/21/1905] & Elmira [8/15/1831-8/17/1892]. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the family of Mahias Hawk [21120001:001001].4 Johann Mathias departed this life on Monday, 4 April 1831 in Lykens Township at age 56 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was buried there in St. Peter's Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: J. Mathias Haag - born 7 may 1774 - died 4 April 1831 - aged 56 years10 months 27 days.5
