Henry de Grey

     Additional Notes: Henry is a descendant of Gilbert de Grey who fought in the battle of Hastings with William the Conqueror in 1066. Gilbert in turn is a descendant of Rollo. Rollo was given the manor of Croy which was later changed to Grey.1 Henry de was born in England. Henry had a brother, Walter, who was also wealthy and of great influence of happenings in his day. Walter was Archbishop of York from 1215 to 1255; he was one of the longest standing Archbishops of York. He was present at the signing of the Magna Charta along with all the most powerful barons of England. It is not known whether or not there was a marriage between Henry and Isolda Bardolf. Henry obtained Codnor Castle from his marriage to Isolda. Henry had a distinquished career as he served King Richard I faithfully and accompanied him on Richard's crusade to the Holy Land in 1190-91.1 Henry departed this life before 1215. He was deceased at the signing of the Magna Charta 1215.
