Mary (?)

F, b. circa 1691, d. 1755
Important Notes: The surname of Mary has been noted as "Merritt". In searching for the parentage of Mary, no success was found with those of the name in the town of Rye. Pwlletreau, in his Westchester Wills, states that her son Moses stated "his homorable mother, Mary Merritt". It is questionable that he stated this in his will as the copy we have does not make this statement. Possibly it was noted in some other kind of document. It was strangely listed in Pelletreau. It was also strange that her name was listed as Mary Merritt. This brings the thought that it may have meant that she had remarried a Mrerritt & that it was not her surname,
If she were a Merritt - she would most likely descend from Thomas Merritt & Jane Sherwood - the first Merritts to settle in Rye. She would have been the daughter of one of their children. Mary was born circa 1691 in Westchester County, New York. Mary married William Fowler, son of Henry Fowler IV and Abigail Hoyt, circa 1709 in New York. Mary's husband, William, died before 14 September 1747 in North Castle, Westchester County, New York, leaving her a widow. Mary departed this life in 1755 in Westchester County, New York.
