     Charlton was born on Monday, 22 August 1808 in Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York, at Grove Farm. He was the son of Elijah Ferris and Amelia Livingston. Charlton married Anna Seaman, daughter of Dr. Valentine Seaman and Anna Ferris, on 10 October 1842 in Princes Bay, Staten Island, Richmond County, New York. Saturday, October 22, 1842 - 10th inst. Princes Bay, S.I. Charlton Ferris if Throgs Neck, Westchester County to Anna Seaman dau of late Dr. Valentine of this city. [New York Evening Post]1 Carlton & Anna had children: Anna Amelia [1844-5/06/1898 ] & John Carlton [2/08/1847- ]. 18 November 1850, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Westchester, Westchester County, New York. Ferris is a horticulturalist.2 22 August 1860, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the town of Westchester, Westchester County, New York. Their real estate was valued at $30,000.3 15 July 1870, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Westchester, Westchester County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Charlton Ferris [60 New York], his wife: Anna [58 New York], children: Anna [25 New York], domestic servant: Margaret Burns [45 Ireland], Mary Burns [50 Ireland], laborer: Michael Burns [17 Georgia], William Ferris [61 New York]. William Ferris is keeping a nursey.4 Charlton died on Wednesday, 5 July 1871 in Throgs Neck at Grove Farm of pneumonia. He was buried at the town of Westchester, Westchester County, New York, in the Ferris Family Burying Grond at Grove Farm. The inscription on his tombstone reads: 22 Aug 1808-5 July 1871.5 On 4 May 1896, his wife purchased burial lots in Detroit at Woodmere Cemetery before having her son's and husband's coffins removed from the Ferris Burying Ground and brought to Detroit. He was then reiterred on 16 May 1896 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, in the Woodmere Cemetery.6
