Giles De Forest1

M, b. circa 1455
     Giles was born circa 1455 in Avesnes, Hainaut, Flanders, France. The De Forests origins are rooted in those of the Wallons of Belgium andNortheast France. Because of the turbulent history of the little fortress city of Avesnes, records are scarce and fragmented. Fortunately we do have records showing Giles De Forest to be a burgher and a receiver of taxes from 1494 to 1509. There is some indication that Giles was a descendent of a landed family, but this can not be proven. There is only circumstantial evidence that Giles is the progenator of this long family line.
