     Jean was born on Sunday, 8 November 1626 in Tourouvre at the parish of St-Aubin. Jean married Marguerite Gaulin, daughter of Vincent Gaulin and Marie Bonnemer, on 13 September 1654 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.3 1666, Jean and Marguerite were listed on the Canadian Census in Beauport, ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Jean Creste [40 years], Marguerite Golin [38 years], Louis [10 years], Marie [9 years], Marguerite [7 years], Francoise [5 years], Jean [2 years] & a domestic under contract, Pierre [24 years].4 1667, Jean and Marguerite were listed on the Canadian Census in Beauport, ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Jean Creste [42 years], Marguerite Geslin [40 years], Louis [11 years], Marie [9 years], Marguerite [8 years], Francoise [7 years], Jean [3 years] & Joseph [1 year].5 1681, Jean and Marguerite were listed on the Canadian Census in Beauport, ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Jean Creste [55 years], Marguerite Gaulin [54 years], Louis [25 years], Jean [17 years], Joseph [15 years], Marie [13 years], Pierre [10 years] & servant, Marie Chapacou [16 years].6 Jean's wife, Marguerite, died on 15 January 1703 in Beauport, ville de Quebec leaving him a widower. Jean departed this life on Thursday, 4 March 1717 in Beauport, ville de Quebec. He was buried there in the churchyard of La-Nativitie-de-Notre-Dame on Friday, 5 March 1717.7

    A master carriage maker, Jean was baptized between 08 and 23 November 1626 in the parish of Saint-Aubin in Tourouvre (near Mortagne), Perche, the third of four children (and only son) of Antoine Crete or Creste and Jeanne Legrand, who were married 29 October 1619 in Tourouvre by Father Guillaume Loyseau. His godparents were Sébastien Legrand (Jeanne's brother, son of Noel) and Marie Creste (wife of Jean Bouchigny), representing Agnes Legrand. His father, the son of carriage maker Jehan Creste and Marguerite Chaudon, was born 22 November 1592 and himself worked as a carriage maker in the hamlet of "Les Boullais" in the parish of Tourouvre. His mother was born 15 April 1595 in Tourouvre, the daughter of merchant Noel Legrand and Suzanne Loyseau. After her death, Antoine Crete married Martine Pignart about 1638.
    Jean Crete enlisted to go to Canada on 18 March 1649 at Tourouvre. Notary Choiseau drew up the contract on behalf of Antoine Merry, acting as agent for Michel Le Neuf, Sieur du Hérisson of Trois Rivières. With his father present as a witness, Jean enlisted for three years at the salary of 80 livres per year. After arriving in New France, Jean spent his three years of indenture at Trois Rivières before moving to Beauport. On 11 August 1654 (notary Badeau), Jean bought a lot in the Bourg de Fargy section of Beauport. In 1660, he bought part of the arriere-fief of Dubuisson from Claude Guyon, husband of "Filles à Marier", Catherine Cohn.
    He is listed with his family in the 1666 Beauport census as a "charron" a wheelwright and master carriage maker. The family can be also be found at Beauport in 1667 and 1681 censuses, the children born after 1667 were all born at Beauport and baptized in Québec, City.
    Jean Crete died 04 March 1717 at Beauport, where he was buried the next day.

    Was present Jean Creste , son of Antoine, a carriage maker residing in the hamlet of Les Boullais, parish of Tourouvre, who voluntarily has promised and obligated himself in body and goods and by these presents promises and obligates himself to and for Sieur du Hérisson living in New France at the settlement of Trois Rivières, absent, stipulating and accepting for him Antoine Merry, Sieur de La Reboursière residing at Tourouvre, present at this, that is to go serve the said Sieur Hérisson in the said land of New France for the period of three years to begin from the day of disembarkation that shall be made this year in New France and ending with the day of disembarkation that shall be made at the end of the said three years in France. With the understanding of transporting the said Creste both ways and to feed him during the said time, for such has been promised, renouncing, obliging, etc. Present at this: Master François Chastel, lawyer at Tourouvre and Antoine Creste, father of the said Jean, residing in the parish of Tourouvre, witnesses who have, with the parties and us, notary, signed. Which parties have been advised to have these presents sealed according to the King's edict.
