Sir Raffe Coggeshall Knight1

M
FatherSir Thomas Coggeshall Knight
Raffe was born in Coggeshall, County Essex, England. Raffe married Elizabeth (?) in England. _. He was living in the 17th year of Henry III [1216-1272] being 28 October 1232-27 October 1233.

[NOTE: From the information given in the folios and given in the Visitation of Norfolk, cited, there is all indications that there is more than one generation of Raffe (Ralph). In comparing the two sources, it appears that the two generations of Raffe are grandfather and grandson. Since the elder Raffe had to be born at least by 1213, and in all likely hood even earlier, probably before the turn of the century, and since the visitation has a Raffe dieing in 1305 who is a brother of a John and also a son of a John, It appears that John the father of Raffe (dieing in 1305) is the son of Raffe born circa 1195. John the son of Raffe (1195) could have been born around 1230 and could very well be the John who is recorded as deceased in 1295. This would make him the right age to have fathered the three sons listed in the Visitation, Raffe, John, and Henry, they being born circa 1255, 1258,1260. The post mortem done in 1302 would be this John and the post mortem done in 1305 would be for this Raffe. With the addition of John between the two Raffes, the age spans are reasonalbe and explains where the first John in the visitation fits in to the earlier history outlined in the folios. From this point the two sources are in agreement with the exception of dates being off by a year or two. Thus we have included Raffe and his grandson Raffe into our lineage. Larry & Kathy McCurdy]
