     John was born in County Anrtim, Ireland. John married Margaret de Stanton, daughter of Humphrey de Staunton, circa 1342 in County Essex, England. He was made Knight in 1337 by Edward, the Black Prince. He may have been knighted 12 Edward III [1327-1377] being 25 January 1338 - 24 January 1339. He was high sheriff of Essex & Herdfordshire in 1336 to 1349 and 1353 to 1356. At his death, he held the Manors of Sutton, Beneflete, Coldham, Coggeshall, Samhill, Hokewell, Ailsford, Fratyng & Thoriton, Pagesham, & Roghir in County Essex. In addition, he owned land in the towns of Bokkyngg [Bocking], Feryngg, County Essex. All his lands went to his eldest son. John departed this life. There was an inquest post mortem on 26 June 35 Edward II being 1361.

[S332] Robert Coggeshall, The Coggeshall in England, Sir John Coggeshall, Lord of Coggeshall [which he held of the abbots of Westminister & of Coggeshall], who was born circa 1302 & was knighted by Edward, the Black Prince in 1337. "He was a considerable man of his time," being high sheriff of Essix & Hertfordshire in 1336-1349 & 1353-1356. He married Margaret, daughter & heiress of Humphrey de Stanton, from who she received the Manor of Alesford. Under a writ of Diem Clausit Extremum the inquest post mortem [similiar to our probate inventory], 26 June 35 Edward II, 1361, showed that Sir John held the Manors of Sutton, Beneflete, Coldham, Coggeshall, Samhill, Hokewell, Ailsford, Fratyng & Thoriton, Pagesham, & Roghir, in addition to lands in the towns of Bokkyngg [Bocking], Feryngg [Ferring], Co. Essex - all of which went to his eldest son.
