Richard was born circa 1660 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. On 25 September 1675, his father notes in his will that Richard is not yet 18 years old and he left him property containing 404 acres called Clarks Inheritance. Richard married Elizabeth Mariarte circa 1694 in Anne Arundel County. Richard and Elizabeth had children: Neal [4/11/1695-1/15/1708], Rachel [8/15/1697][m. 1715 John Welch], Elizabeth [5/10/1700][m. 7/15/1718 Richard Jones], Richard [12 Feb 1702-2/24/1702], Margaret [11/07/1703][m. George Buchanan] & Ruth [circa 1705]. Richard later in his life, became resentful of the acitions and policies of the Maryland Provincial government. He became a rebel and was known to have set buildings on fire and stealing firearms and ammunition. He was finally caught and jailed. In 1705, his mother facilitated a jail break allowing him to escape and to become a fugative. During the year 1705, his brother, Neale, and his sister, Rachel, and their spouses sold the property called "Clarks Inheritance" "that had late been in the occupation of Richard Clarke to John Brice." Thes was done to prevent the property from being siezed by the Maryland government. The procedes of this sale went to Elizabeth, wife of Richard, to maintain the family as Richard was in hiding having excaped from jail. Richard departed this life in April 1708 in Baltimore County, Maryland. Richard eventually turned himself in to the Maryland autorities. In turn, he was conficted of treason and hung.
