     Bertrand was born on Sunday, 20 February 1622 in St-Brieuc, Cote-de-Armor, Brittany, France, at Finiac Parish. He was the son of Nicolas Chesnay & Catherine de la Vingne.1 He immigrated from Brittany, France in the early part of 1656.2 Bertrand married Marie-Madeleine Belanger, daughter of Francois Belanger and Marie Guyon, on 7 August 1656 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.3 1666, Bertrand and Marie-Madeleine were listed on the Canadian Census at ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Bertrand Chesnay de la Garenne [40 years][merchant], Marie Madeleine Bellanger [24 years], Marie [8 years], Anne [18 months], Jean [4 years], Robert Tournroche [20 years][employeed as a taylor] & a servant Anne Gaigneur [13 years].4 1667, Bertrand and Marie-Madeleine were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte de Montmorency, Quebec, Canada. Bertrand married 2nd Elisabeth Auber on 4 February 1671 in Chateau-Richer, Montmorency County, Quebec, Canada, at the church of La Visitation-de-Notre-Dame.6 1681, Bertrand and Elisabeth were listed on the Canadian Census at ville de Quebec. Enumerated in this household were Bertrand Chesne [60 years], Elisabeth Aubert [30 years], Jean [20 years], Anne [17 years], Joseph [14 years], Elisabeth [9 years], Charles [8 years], Francoise [6 years], Madeleine [7 years], Marie [5 years], Louis [3 years], Agnes [4 months], a Domestic, Pierre [22 years] & a servant, Anne [15 years].7 Bertrand departed this life before 16 January 1683 in ville de Quebec. He was buried there in the Notre Dame Cemetery on Sunday, 17 January 1683.8,9
