     Thomas was born in 1810 in County Sligo, Ireland. He was the son of John & Elenor Buchanan. Thomas married Deborah Jeffery, daughter of John Matthew Jeffery Jr. and Eunice Travis, on 2 November 1840 in Ontario, Canada. Thomas and his wife, Margaret, are both 22, and his sister-in-law, Ann Hicks is living with them; she is 17.3 1881, Thomas and his wife, Deborah, were listed on the Canadian Census at Mono. [18 Ontario] & Martha [20 Ontario]. .Thomas is a farmer.4 Thomas's wife, Deborah, died on 4 December 1885 in the family home in Mono leaving him a widower.5 Thomas died on Sunday, 6 July 1890 in the family home in Mono general dibility which he suffered from for 14 days.6 He was buried there in St. Johns Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Thom's Buchanan - Died ^ Juky 1890 - Aged 80 years - Native of Sligo Ireland.7
