FatherRobert de Bruce VII Earl of Carrick b. Jul 1243, d. b 4 Apr 1304
MotherCountess Marjorie of Carrick b. b 1256, d. b 1292
Edward was born circa 1276 in Carrick, Ayrshire, Scotland, at Turnberry Castle. Edward was the second son of Robert and Marjorie.2 Edward married Isobel Strathbogie Earl of Atholl. There is no evidence that this marriage was solemnized by the church, but the couple apparently lived as husband and wife as best as they could considering the upheaval in which they were living. Edward received a dispensation on 1 Jun 1317 for a marriage to Isabella of Ross daughter of Uilleam II, Earl of Ross. With the chain of events at this time, it is unlikely that the marriage ever took place. Edward was killed in the Battle of Faughart on Friday, 14 October 1318 in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. It is said that after the battle the enemy forces quartered the body and sent the pieces to different parts of Ireland. His head was delivered to King Edward II of England.

The Irish medievalist Seán Duffy suggests that he was probably fostered in Ireland as a child. This was a common Scottish and Irish cultural practice, and would tie in with, and perhaps explain, parts of his later life. - http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Edward-Bruce
