     Nicholas was born in 1668 in Bedford, Brooklyn, Kings County, Long Island, New York. He was often referred to as Claes. Nicholas married Belettie Van Schaick on 26 June 1696 in the City, County & State of New York. Claus was a baker. The family resided in New York City.4 Nicholas's wife, Belettie, died before 23 February 1707/8 in the City, County & State of New York, leaving him a widower. Nicholas married 2nd Margaret Cornilyea Van Tilburg on 23 February 1707/8 in the City, County & State of New York. Nicholas made his will on 17 September 1726 at the City, County & State of New York. He mentions his wife, Margarettie, and his children: Jan, John, Cornelius, Hendrick, Petrus, Cornelia, Mary, Elizabeth & Annatie and his daughter-in-law, Catherine Van Telbergh, wife of Cornelius Turck, Jr. [New York Wills: Liber 10, page 376] Nicholas departed this life on Saturday, 25 January 1727 in the City, County & State of New York. His will was probated on 10 February 1727.
