Amaziah Benjamin1

M, b. 16 March 1741, d. 1812
     Amaziah was born on Thursday, 16 March 1741 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Amaziah and Anna Benjamin. He gave his age as 40 when he signed the Oath of Allegiance and Peaceable Behaviour required by Governor William Tryon in 1778 which made his birth in1738.2,3 Amaziah married Mary Howell, daughter of Captain Richard Howell and Elizabeth Tuthill, in November 1761 in the Town of Southold.4 Amaziah and Mary had children: Amaziah [9/22/1765-1/29/1851] [m. Mary Acsah Sweezy], Nelly [1766], Mary [1769], Martha [1770-8/03/1836] [m. 1791 John Howell III], David [10/28/1771-4/19/1848] [m. 1/29/1799 Desire Terry], Isaac [1773-11/09/1850] [m. 1795 Nancy Goodale], Israel [1777-1838] [m. 1809 Desire Wells], Ezra [1780-1863] [m. 1808 Phoebe Luce], Jemima [1782]. Amaziah departed this life in 1812 in Riverhead, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, at age 70 years.
