Richard's wife, Ellyn, died circa 27 April 1580 in Ballingdon, County Suffolk, England, leaving him a widower.1 Richard married 2nd Miss (?) ___ in County Suffolk, England.2 Richard's wife, (?), died circa 18 March 1592 in Ballingdon, County Suffolk, England, leaving him a widower. Richard married 3rd Rose (?) circa 1593 in England. Richard made his will on 28 March 1602 at Ballingdon, County Suffolk, England.

In the name of God Amen the eight & twentith daye of Marche 1602 & in the fowre & fortith yeare of the reigne of ower Soveigne [sic] Ladye Quene Elizabeth I Richard Bell of Ballingdon in the Countye of Essex potter being att this tyme thankes be unto God in good & p[er]fecte memorye, calling to remembrance the uncertaintye of this lyffe & the certaintye of death to all p[er]sons allotted doe make & ordeyne this my last will & testament in manner & forme following First I bequeath my sowle to Almightye God my maker & redemer, hoping that through the merites of Jesus Christ my Savior all my synnes are forgeven to me And my bodye to be buryed in the p[ar]ish of all S'te churcheyeard in Sudburye It[e]m I geve to Rose my wyffe my old cowe & one of my shottes & fower peece of pewter & one wheele and my flockbed wheryn I doe nowe lye w[i]th the coverlett blankette sheetes bolster & pillowe therto belonging in the litle chamber next the street & the choyse of all the rest of my bedsteddes (except that onlye in the sayde chamber) And also the best one hanginge or painted clothes for her bedstedd in the chamber next my working howse Itim I geve & bequeath to the sayde Rose my wyffe all suche ymplements & howsehold stuffe as were hers before the tyme of ower marriage And my meaning is that she shall take order w[i]th the widowe dikes of Barfold for xx shillings borrowed of her (yf yt be demanded). It[e]m I geve to Humfrey Bell my eldest sonne iij shillings iiij pence to be, payde to him w[i]th in three monethes next after my decease, It[e]m I geve to the three children of my sonne in lawe James Soles iij shillings iiij pence a pece to be payde to them w[i]thin three monethes also next after my decease. It[e]m I geve to my lame daughter Anne Bell xx shillings to be payde to her w[i]thyn fowre monethes next after my decease It[e]m I geve to to [sic] my daughter Martha Smithe iij shillings iiij pence to be paide to her w[i]thyn fower monethes after my decease It[e]m I geve to Ellen Sole v shillings to be payde to her w[i]thyn three monethes after my deathe And to my daughter Elizabeth Bell v shillings to be payde to her in like manner It[e]m I geve to my sonne in lawe James Soles v shillings to be payde to him w[i]thyn fower monethes after my death for his paynes to be taken about my will It[e]m I geve to my sonne Richard Bell my dublette & hose. All the rest of my goods chattells ymplements cattell & howseholde stuffe unbequeathed (my dewe debtes & legacyes beinge first payde & deducted out of the same) I geve and bequeathe to the saide [sic] Richard William & William[131 my sonnes & the saide Anne my daughter equallye to be devided amongst them And I doe ordeyne & make the sayd James Soles & Richard Bell my sonnes execut[e]rs of this my last will & testament. And I utterlye revoke & adnull all former willes, legacyes & bequests by me herebefoer in any wyse made willed & bequeathed In witnesse wherof to this my last will & testament I have sett my seale & subscribedm my name the day & yeare first above written. Richard departed this life circa 10 April 1602 in Ballingdon, County Suffolk, England. He was buried at Sudbury, County Suffolk, England, in All Saints Church.4 His will was probated on 14 April 1602.
