John was born in England. John married Katherine (?) in 1628 in England. John was one of eighteen who signed a compact to found the state of RhodeIsland in January of 1638. On 1 August 1634, John & his wife, Katherine, left their home in England aboard the ship, "Griffin", bound for New England. Listed among the 200 passengers were John Walker, his wife, Katherin, & Sarah including William & Ann Hutchinson and John Lathrop. Many of of these immigrants became leaders in the colony. They arrived on the 18th of September at Boston.. John made his will on 18 March 1648 at Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.

"my wife Katherine Walker" as sole executor and bequeathed to "my daughter Mary Walker 20 acres of land at the upper end of my lot"; "to my daughter Sands twenty acres of land beginning next to Mr. Browning's at the seaside and from thence up to the mill path, and there to butt against my daughter Mary's twenty acres" and if she die "childless then . . . this twenty acres shall fall unto her husband James Sands & his heirs forever"; the work my son-in-law James Sands is now doing he shall have the benefit of it as we have formerly agreed"; "my house with the land that is left shall be my wife's for her lifetime and after decease to fall to my two daughters to be equally divided between them"; "my daughter Mary's land shall fall unto her at marriage or at twenty years of age if she marry not before."2
John departed this life after 18 March 1648 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island. His will was probated on 16 December 1671 at Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.2
