Joseph married Hannah Whitlock, daughter of John Whitlock, on 10 November 1636 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.2 He and Hannah were blessed with 10 children. Circa 1638, Joseph and his wife, Hannah, immigrated from Buckinghamshire, England, to New England. They settled in Milford, Connecticut. Joseph was one of the settlers of Milford, Connecticut in 1639. His name appears November 20 of that year on the list of Free Planters. He & his wife, Hannah joined & were baptized at the church at Milford 23 June 1644. He was given lot no. 52 which consisted of 2 acres, 1 rod, and 20 poles near where the present railroad passes over West Town Street.3 Joseph's wife, Hannah, died on 15 April 1661 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. In 1663, Joseph removed to Hadley, Massachusetts where he was made a freeman 1666. Joseph married 2nd Isabella Ward after 1663 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Isabella was married 1st to John Catlin, by whom she had at least one child, John, and 2nd to James Northam.4,5,6 Joseph's wife, Isabella, died on 8 December 1676 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, leaving him a widower. Joseph married 3rd Elizabeth Gibbons after 8 December 1676 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. She was 1st married to Luke Hitchcock who died in Wethersfield in November 1659. Joseph made his will on 20 December 1680 at Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

Joseph Baldwin's will made in 1680. He disposed of his estate judiciously, thus,
Item: in Hadley to children of his eldest son, Joseph, then deceased
Item: in Milford to Benjamin, Jonathan, and David - personal property to his eldest daughter, Hannah, wife of Jeremiah Hull of New Haven, to Mary, wife of John Catlin of Arthur Kill, New Jersey, to Elizabeth, wife of James Warriner of Springfield, to John, & Hannah Hawkes, children of John of Hatfield, in right of their mother, Martha, dececeased and to Sarah, wife of Samuel Bartlett of Northampton, whom was another child perhaps youngest, of the testator.8

Joseph departed this life on Thursday, 2 November 1684 in Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. He was buried at Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, in the Old Hadley Cemetery.9

Many of the prominent Baldwins of Milford are his descendants, and have had considerable influence in Milford's prosperity. Nathan A. Baldwin and Albert A. Baldwin have paid out millions to their operatives, and at this writing give employment to a large number. Joseph's house lot was next to that of Nicholas Camp (22), and some of his descendants are now living on it. His son David married Mary, daughter of Ensign John Stream (23), and those now in Milford come from this marriage.
