Willem Isaacsen was born on Thursday, 1 January 1637 in The Hague, Holland, Netherlands. On 1 January 1637, he was christened in Hague, Holland, Netherlands, at the Klooster Kerk.2 Willem married Appolona Barrentsen Kool, daughter of Barent Jacobsen and Marritje Leenderts D'Grauw, on 19 October 1664 in the City, County & State of New York. On 17 May 1658, Willem arrived in New Netherlands on the ship "Gilded Beaver". [The Genealogical History of Hudson & Bergen Counties, New Jersey by Cornelius Burnham Harvey, The New Jersey Genealogical Publishing Company 1900, page 103]. For sometime he was a soldier for the Dutch West India Company as his name was on the muster roll on 28 March 1660. By June 1661, he was of civilian status as he petitioned for remission of his passage money to New Netherland as a discharged soldier. Further evidence shows him in Wiltwyck [later Kingston] as he is found in court records on 4 October & 28 November 1662. He was last found in Wiltwick in December 1663 in their court records. At the beginning of 1664, he removes to New York City where on 19 October 1664, he married Appolona, daughter of Barrent Jacobsen Kool, a prominent officer of the Dutch West India Company of Amsterdam. On 1 February 1673, William Darvall sold to Willem Issacqse Van Vrendenburg a house & lot on the Heere Street [now Broadway]. Later that same year in October the council of New York decided that Fort Willem Hendrick & the city were had too many houses & gardens to close to the walls & bulwarks, one being that of Willem. He was ordered to have his house torn down. On 19October 1678, he sold his house & lot in New York City. [Notes on the Vredenburgh & Burnett Families by E. Reuel Smith, p. 2]
By 29 October 1679, Willem had returned to Wiltwick as there is reference to a lot between a barn & Willem Van Vredenbrock's mill.
In a deposition made 28 March 1684, Willem stated his age as 46 years or thereabouts. This leaves little doubt that he is the same Willem baptised in the Hague. Willem was still alive in 1704 because he & his son Willem both appear on a jury list in Ulster County. Willem departed this life after 1704 in New York.
