     Seth Baldwin was born on Saturday, 18 May 1799 in New Durham, Greene County, New York. Seth married Eliza Stedman, daughter of John D. Stedman II and Sylvia Catlin, on 26 June 1827 in Tioga County, New York. Seth is thought to have lived for a time in Vermont. On 6 March 1832, Seth was elected as an officer being in charge of sealing weights & measures in the town of Richford. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Berkshire, Tioga County, New York, the family of Seth B. Torry [000001:10011].6 The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Richford Township, Tioga County, New York, the family of Seth B. Torrey [1100001:111001].7 They left their home in Tioga County and moved to Michigan in 1845. They settled in Unadilla Township, Livingston County. On 20 May 1846, Seth & Eliza purchased land in section 23 Unadilla and sold it in 1855. They Then bought land in section 9, 22 & 23 Unadilla, on 9 August 1858 and sold it in the same year. On 7 November 1853, Seth purchased the southeast section of the southwest 1/4 of Section 23 consisting of 40 acres. In 1860, Seth was the town clerk in Unadilla. In 1863 he & his son owned a general store there in Unadilla under the name of Torrey and Son General Store.8,9 9 August 1850, Seth and his wife, Elizabeth, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Seth B. Taylor [51 New York], Elizabeth [46 Connecticut], George [16 New York], Elenor [8 New York], Sarah [6 New York]. Seth is a carpenter & George is a farmer.10 6 June 1860, Seth and his wife, Elizabeth, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Unadilla Township. Enumerated in this household were S. B. Torrey [61 New York], Eliza [56 Connecticut], George [26 New York], Sarah [16 New York] & Charles [10 New York]. Eliza is a glove maker.11 Seth departed this life on Wednesday, 17 November 1869 in Unadilla Township at age 70 years, 5 months and 30 days. He was buried at Fowlerville, Livingston County, Michigan, in the Greenwood Cemetery.12
