     John was born in 1705 in Hempstead Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York. John married Abigail Sands, daughter of John Sands and Sybil Ray, on 19 February 1729/30 in New York. The family resided at Harrison, Westchester Co., New York. Judge John Thomas was an outspoken activist and revolutionary. The British found him obnoxious dangerous enough to imprison him at Provost jail at the age of 72. He was a political hero of Westchester and the colonies in his day, but seems to have been forgotten. - Westchester Patriarchs by Norman Davis.
John made his will on 28 January 1775. He mentions his wife Abigail & his children: John, Thomas, Sibil w/o Abraham Theall, Charity w/o James Ferris, Margaret widow of Charles Floyd, Gloriana w/o James Franklin. Witnessed by Abigail Thomas Jr., Hannah Lawrence, William Miller. [New York Wills: Liber 33, page 178] John departed this life on Thursday, 22 May 1777 at Provost Prison in the City, County & State of New York. He was buried in the yard of the Trinity Church in the City, County & State of New York. His will was probated on 11 September 1780.
