     William was born in 1678 in Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. William married Ruth Convers on 7 December 1704 in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts.2 William and Ruth had children: William [10/10/1705-died young], Zechariah [9/01/1707] [m. Judith Eames], Josiah [4/07/1710], Timothy [m. Elizabeth Bodge], Mary [m. Mr. Munroe], John [circa 1720] [m. Abigail Dix], Elizabeth [5/07/1722-died young] & William [11/00/1729] [m. Anna Gee, m. (2) Susanna Powell].3 William's wife, Ruth, died on 16 March 1758 in Woburn leaving him a widower.2 William made his will on 21 November 1761.

He calls himself William Symmes, of Medford, yeoman. He leaves legacies to his sons Zechariah, Josiah, Timothy, John and William, and his daughter Mary Munroe. To his sons Zechariah, Josiah, Timothy and John, he gives his dwelling house, barn, the mill, and about eighty acres of land; the land to be equally divided among these four sons. The portion of each is particularly described, and cannot conveniently be noted here. To his son, William he gives the whole expense he, the father, had incurred for his education at school and at college, and £13.6.8 besides - equivalent to forty dollars.4

William departed this life on Thursday, 24 May 1764 in Medford at age 86 years.2 His will was probated on 16 April 1766 at Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The inventory of his estate was: Real £490.3.4 & Personal £33.16.1.5
