Samuel Swartz

M, b. 1779, d. 24 February 1867
     Samuel was born in 1779 in Pennsylvania. Samuel married Barbara Geil, daughter of Jacob Geil and (?) _____, on 15 October 1801 in Mt. Jackson, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Samuel & Barbara had children: Chris [8/14/1804], Jacob [ca. 1805], Philip [ca. 1807], Catharine [ca. 1809], twins: John [5/09/1811] & Elizabeth [5/09/1811], Samuel [1817] & Mary [1819]. They lived at Buck Hill, Shenandoah County, Virginia and later lived on a farm; known in 1850 as the "Meems" river bottoms, a short distance south of Mt. Jackson. Samuel was a weaver and also did some farming. Samuel's wife, Barbara, died on 19 March 1849 in Buck Hill leaving him a widower. 13 September 1850, the U.S. Federal Census listed Samuel living in the home of his son at Shenandoah County, Virginia. Enumerated in this household were Samuel Swartz [33 Virginia], his wife: Lydia [38 Virginia], John M. Collins [9 Virginia], Barbara Rucker [5 Virginia], Samuel Swartz [69 Pennsylvania].1 25 September 1860, the U.S. Federal Census listed Samuel living in the home of his son at Hamburg District, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Enumerated in this household were Samuel Swartz [42 Virginia], his wife: Lydia [46 Virginia], John Collins [19 Virginia], Samuel Evey [9 Virginia], Josephine [6 Virginia], Samuel Swartz [83 Virginia].2 Samuel departed this life on Sunday, 24 February 1867 in Buck Hill, Shenandoah County, Virginia.
