     John D. was born on Tuesday, 22 August 1775 in Hartford County, Connecticut. John married Sylvia Catlin circa 1798 in Hartford County, Connecticut. The 1800 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut, the family of John Stedman [00101:101].5 The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Windham Township, Greene County, New York, the family of John Stedman Jr. [10010:31010].6 They moved to Durham, Greene County, New York. On 3 August 1820, they were residing in Newark Valley, Tioga County where Sylvia joined the church. On 3 July 1820, all their living children were baptized. On 12 January 1823, they were dismissed from Newark Valley. The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Berkshire, Broome County, New York, the family of John Stedman [010010:411101].7 In 1846, thier son, John Catlin, returned from Michigan to move them to Unadilla, Livingston County, Michigan. 9 August 1850, John and his wife, Sylvia, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were John Stedman [74 Connecticut] & Silvia [72 Connectticut].8 John's wife, Sylvia, died on 23 April 1856 in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan, leaving him a widower. John departed this life on Wednesday, 18 April 1860 in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. He was buried there in the Baseline Cemetery.9 6 June 1860, the U.S. Federal Census listed John living in the home of his son at Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were J. C. Steadman [53 New York], his wife: Julia Ann [52 New York], Enos S. [26 New York], Ulyses [24 New York], John C. [22 New York] & father: John Steadman [85 Connecticut].10
