     Solomon was born in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He was christened there on 8 September 1822 in Hoffman's Reformed Church. The sponsors of his christening were Samuel & Catharina Shofstall.2 Solomon married Zilpha Lurana March on 27 September 1840 in Crawford County, Ohio.3 Solomon & Lurana had children: Cornelia [3/00/1843-12/23/1906][m. 10/07/1859 Homer McCleary], Anne Amelia [12/07/1844-9/07/1864][m. 8/21/1862 William Cade], Winfield [12/17/1849-12/08/1853], & Rowena Matilda [1/01/1854-1/29/1922][m. 5/11/1872 Franklin Augustus Sampson]. 9 September 1850, Solomon and his wife, Lurana, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Solomon Shofstall [28 Pennsylvania], his wife: Lurana. [30 New York], children: Cornelia [7 Ohio], Anne [4 Onio], Winfield [6 mos. Ohio], along with Liliia Benson [18 New York].4 2 June 1860, Solomon and his wife, Lurana, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Portersville, Holmes Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Solomon Shaffstall [38 Pennsylvania], his wife: Lorany [40 New York], children: Rainy [6 Ohio][female], Amy [15 Ohio], along with August Miller [41 Prussia], & Barbara A. Miller [26 Virginia]. Solomon is a stone mason.5 17 June 1870, Solomon and his wife, Lurana, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, Wisconsin. Enumerated in this household were Solomon Shaffstall [50 Pennsylvania], his wife: Lurana [51 New York], Rowena [16 Ohio], & Mary L. Cade [6 Wisconsin]. Solomon is a farmer.6 4 June 1880, Solomon and his wife, Zilpha, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Herrick Township, Deuel County, Dakota Territory. Enumerated in this household were Solomon Shaffstall [59 Pennsylvania], Zilpha [61 New York] and a laborer: Edward Grace [20 Wisconsin]. Solomon is a farmer.7 Solomon's wife, Zilpha, died on 4 January 1892 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, leaving him a widower. In 1892, Solomon married Sarah M. in Knox County, Illinois. Solomon departed this life on Sunday, 18 May 1902 in Knoxville at age 79 years, 8 months and 10 days. He was buried there in Woodlawn Cemetery.8
