     Richard was born on Thursday, 3 August 1752 in Frederick County, Maryland, at the family home "Ridgely's Chance". Richard married Rebecca Templin on 24 September 1782 in Frederick County. On 29 September 1791, Richard bought from his sister Alice and her husband Henry Hill, Alice's share of her parent's plantation "Ridgley's Rest" for 46 pounds, 2 shillings and 6 pence. Richard and Rebecca had children: Sarah [7/16/1783], Anna [6/14/1786], Rebeccah, Samuel [5/30/1790] & Joshua [6/24/1793]. The 1790 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Frederick County, Maryland, the family of Richard Ridgely [12:4].2 Richard made his will on 27 October 1797.

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Ridgley of the County of Frederick being weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God calling to mind the uncertainty of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die declare ordain this my last will and testament That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it And my Body recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Christian Order at the Discretion of my Executor nothing Doubting but at the General resurrection I will receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God And as Touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless in this life I give Demise and Dispose of the same in the following form and manner.
First I give and bequeath to Rebeccah my Dearly beloved wife whom I constitute and ordain the Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament All and Singular my lands massuages and Tenements by her to be freely whole estate viz: One Tract of land called Ridgley’s Risk and part Alay Survey joining said Ridgley’s Risk and part of a Tract of Land called Piller Hall joining R. Risk likewise one other Tract of land called Fielders out of which she is to pay my lawful Debts and after her death my son Samuel is to have that Tract of Land called Fielders and my son Joshua is to have Ridgley’s Risk and part of Alay Survey joining it and part of a Tract of land called Piller Hall which land is to be valued by two creditable Freeholders when possessed by Samuel Ridgley and Joshua Ridgley or their heirs who is to unto their Sisters Sarah Ridgley Anna Ridgley and Rebeccah Ridgley or their heirs I agreeably to the value of their estate in the Form of three years after possessing their lands the last two years bearing lawful interest unless all paid the first year And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testament Wills and Legacies Bequests and Executors in any wise before mentioned Willed and Bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty seventh day of October in this year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Ninety seven.

Richard departed this life on Friday, 13 June 1800 in Frederick County.
