Harriett [Pelon] Meraw
     Harriett was born on Monday, 24 February 1840 in Huntingdon Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada.1 On 9 May 1840, she was christened in Belleville, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Her sponsors were Felmon Hott & Mary Duron.2 Harriet's name was spelled a variety of ways: Pelon, Pelin, Pillon, Pilon,Ploux, Plue. Harriett married Daniel Beausoliel before 1857 in Ontario, Canada. Harriett's husband, Daniel, died before 1858 in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, leaving her a widow. Harriett married 2nd Louis-Treffle Merand, son of Ambroise Merand and Julie Rivard dit Lanouette, circa 1858 in Hungerford Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada. 15 February 1861, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census at Hungerford Township. Enumerated in this household were Trifley Mareran [29 Lower Canada], Harriett [20 Lower Canada], Leues [2 Upper Canada]. They lived in a one story log house. On the Agriculture Census: Trifley Murerow owned 100 acres, 40 being cultivated with a total value of $800.00. It's description - Norrh 1/2 of Lot 13 in the Concession 1? (ink blurred). [Note: from studying others on the census, it appears that it was the 12th concession-klm]3,4 1871, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census at Hungerford Township. Enumerated in this household were Trifley Meareau [35 Quebec], Harriett [30 Ontario], Trifley [12 Ontario], Francis [10 Ontario], Margaret [7 Ontario], Ada [5 Ontario], Fredrick [2 Ontario]. Trifley's origin is French & Harriett's is Irish.5 1881, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census at Hungerford Township. Enumerated in this household were Trifly Maraund [49 Quebec], Harriett [40 Ontario], Louis Trifley [20 Ontario], Francis [18 Ontario], Margaret [17 Ontario], Addie [15 Ontario], Fredrick [13 Ontario], Phillip [9 Ontario], Thomas [6 Ontario], Annie [3 Ontario].6 6 April 1891, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census at Hungerford Township. Enumerated in this household were Triffley Merau [60 PQ PQ & PQ Farmer Catholic], Harriett [48 Ontario Ont & Ont], Ada [22 Ontario], Fredrick [20 Ontario], Phillip [18 Ontario], Thomas [16 Ontario], Anna [14 Ontario], Michael [10 Ontario], Ethel [6 Ontario].7 31 March 1901, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census in at Hungerford Township. Enumerated in this household were Trifley Meraw Sr. [22 November 1830 - 70 Quebec], Harriett [18 April 1842 - 58 Ontario], Frederick [13 October 1871 - 28 Ontario], Annie [8 July 1876 - 24 Ontario], Michael [3 July 1882 - 18 Ontario], Ethel [2 October 1885 - 15 Ontario].8 1911, Harriett and her husband, Louis-Treffle, were listed on the Canadian Census in at Village of Tweed. Enumerated in this household were Trifley Meraw Sr. [83 Quebec - October 1827], Harriet [68 Ontario - April 1843], Philip [34 Ontario - July 1876][DS]. [Note: The next household was Edward Beausoliel [82 Quebec - I? August 1828]].9,10 Harriett's husband, an unknown person , died on 21 September 1913 in Village of Tweed, Hungerford Township at his home on Moira Street leaving her a widow.11,12 Prior to her death, she went to live with her son, Trifley. Harriett died on Saturday, 23 August 1924 in Hungerford Township at age 84 years, 5 months and 30 days from congestion of her lungs. She had been sick with this two or three weeks.13,14 She was buried there in Stocco, Hungerford Township in St. Edmund Church Cemetery.15
