John immigrated aboard the ship. John was born in 1609 in Stanstead Abbotts, Herefordshire, England.1 On 1 April 1635, John left London aboard the ship, "Hopewell", under the command of William Bundocke, bounded New England. Among the passengers listed aboard the ship was John Astwood husbandman aged 26 years..2 He soon settled at Roxbury where he was noted as a freeman 3 March 1636. By 1639 he had moved on to Milford where he met the widow, Sarah Baldwin. John married 2nd Sarah Baldwin circa 1644 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. By the time of this marriage, she was thought to be one of the wealthest of Milford as her worth had increased substantially to 800 pounds and several pieces of land.3 Over the years John took an active part in the affairs of Milford and New Haven Colony. In 1653, he was appointed as a representative to London, probably because he had a need to return to London on personal business regarding the estate of his brother who had died in Roxbury a short time before.4 John died in 1654 in London, County Middlesex, England.5
