Hope Orne Orr

     Hope was born circa 1709 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Simon Orne & companion Mary [ ] Bowditch. Mary m. 1734 Elder Peter Place.1 On 22 September 1722, her father deeded his house & land to her & her sisters: "My house land I give to my three daughters Hope Marcy and Patience them and their heirs, By the 28th of September, he had commited suicide. Hope married John Walling, son of James Walling and Elizabeth Sprague, on 19 July 1730 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island.2 On 13 October 1733, Joshua Orne, paternal uncle of Hope, signed a quit claim deed releasing any rights he might have to land inherited by Hope and her sisters from their father. In the deed Joshua explicitely states the maiden names & their now married names. This deed is verification of the parentage of Hope Orne.3 Hope's husband, John, died in 1770 in Glocester, Smithfield Township, Providence County, Rhode Island, leaving her a widow. She is listed on the 1774 census as a widow.
