William Andrews1,2,3

     William was born circa 1600 in England. William married Abigail Graves circa 1631 in England. The family immigrated in 1634 from England. They first settled at Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1637, the family removed to Hartford, Connecticut. He was a school master in Hartford as early as 1643. In 1658, he was described as "senex" by Winthrop in his journal. When Winthrop used this term, he was referring to men atleast near seventy years of age.4 William made his will on 1 April 1659 at Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut.

William Andrews bequeathed to “Abigail, my wife, my house, barn and homelot as it is enclosed between my son Edward Grannis and me,” also “all my meadow and swamp lying in the South Meadow and that lyeth in the place called Hockanum, and all my upland elsewhere, during the time of her natural life,” also some cattle and all other moveables so long as she remains unmarried; if she marry again, “such of the moveables as she can conveniently spare shall be disposed of among our children as she seeth meet”; to “my son John one working steer”; “Abigail, my wife, shall dispose of my land, meadow, swamp, housing and homelot among our children, to every one of them some, as she shall think fit”; I hereby do make Abigail, my wife, my sole executrix . . . and I do entreat my friend Edward Stebbing and my brother George Grave to assist my wife and to see this my will executed & performed.5,4

William departed this life in Hartford. The inventory of William's estate was taken on Friday, 8 August 1659. His estate was valued at 211 pounds, 14 shillings, 11 pence.
