John married Mary Lajoie on 2 September 1901 in Hungerford Township.1 On 1 May 1903, John Francis purchased from his father the east ½ of lot of concission containing 100 acres for $1800.00, subject him getting a mortgage of $450.00.2 John was listed on the 1911 Canadian Census in Hungerford Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada. Enumerated in this household were John F. Merraw [36 French-Canadian Catholic - September 1875], his wife: Mary [35 French-Canadian Catholic - August 1876], children: Leon [6 - July 1905], Mary [5 - December 1906], Bernard [3 - October 1907], Patrick [1 - February 1909]. They resided on lot 17 in the 10th concession. [Hastings East, sub district 9 - Hungerford - sheet 3, line 30] John departed this life on Wednesday, 16 May 1951 in Hungerford Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, at age 76 years, 8 months and 13 days. John was laid to rest in the yard of St. Carthagh Church, Village of Tweed, Hungerford Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, in grave number 159. The inscription on his stone reads: "Francis Meraw [3 September 1874-16 May 1951] "In loving memory of."Beloved husband of Mary Lajoie [31 August 1875-22 August 1961]. And their beloved family may their souls rest in peace.3
