     James was born on Tuesday, 18 March 1834 at Whetstone Township, Crawford County, Ohio. He was the son of John Litel Sweney and Elizabeth Jane McCurdy. James lived a retired life with his brothers John W. & Thomas L. in Morton Township, Page County, Iowa. After the brothers' death, he returned to Crawford County to live out the remainder of his life with his brother, Sidney. Sidney's granddaughter, Pauline recalled her Uncle Addison holding her in a rocking chair snd telling her stories, His nephew, Robert has small table in his home that he had made.1 1 June 1880, James was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Loda Township, Iroquois County, Illinois. Enumerated in this household were James A. Sweeney [44 Ohio], his brother, John W. Sweeney [37 Ohio]. They were farming.2 7 June 1900, James was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Morton Township, Page County, Iowa. Enumerated in this household were Thomas L. Sweney [Mar 1847 - 53 Ohio], his wife, Elizabeth [Jun 1858 - 41 Iowa], John S. [Sep 1878 - 21 Iowa], Nettie G. [March 1880 - 20 Iowa], Dean F. [Sep 1883 - 16 Iowa], Grace B. [Dec 1887 - 12 Iowa], his brother, John W. Sweney [Sep 1843 - 56 Ohio][single], his brother, James A. Sweney [Aug 1835 - 64 Ohio][single]. Forest Bladgett [Apr 1893 - 6 Iowa - nephew]. Thomas & Elizabeth had been married 22 years with 4 children, all living.3 15 April 1910, James was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa. Enumerated in this household were John Argus [72 New York] and several roomers - one being James A. Sweeney [75 Ohio][single].4 James died on Friday, 12 April 1918 at North Robinson, Crawford County, Ohio, at age 84 years and 25 days at home of his brother Sidney at 1:00 Friday morning. [Obituary - Bucyrus News Forum, 16 April 1918] James was laid to rest in the Stewart Cemetery, Whetstone Township, Crawford County, Ohio, in grave number 187.
