Martha was born on Thursday, 17 August 1843 at Elmwood, Peoria County, Illinois. She was the daughter of James McCurdy II and Roxana Smith. Martha rode a horse to bring in the cattle. She & the horse fell over a river bluff and were killed. Martha departed this life in September 1857 at Keithburg, Mercer County, Illinois, at age 14 years.
