Anna Elizabeth [McCurdy] Snodgrass
     Anna was born on Thursday, 27 December 1838 at Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois. She was the daughter of James McCurdy II and Roxana Smith. Anna married Ceburn B. Snodgrass on 27 September 1856 at Henderson County, Illinois. After the death of Ceburn, Anna along with her children: Eva, George, Jane Price & family, Emma & her husband Oliver Thomsom went to Arkansaa by covered wagons. Eva drove one. They located in mountain country in 1892. While living there, Eva met & later married John Franklin Hammock. He lived in the foot hills near St. Paul, Arkansas where he owned a forty acre fruit farm. Eva & John rode horseback to the church in St. Paul to get married. Later, that fall [1896], they returned by covered wagon to Kansas. On the return trip, Eva was thrown from a horse & broke her arm. Since they could not find a doctor to set it, her husband & brother George had to set it. 11 June 1870, Anna and her husband Ceburn were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Wakarusa Township, Douglas County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Seburn Snodgrass [41 Tennessee], his wife: Anna E. [31 Illinois], Nancy J. [13 Illinois], Sarah E. [11 Illinois], Sidney F. [8 Illinois], Nettie C. [4 Illinois], Anna P. [2 Illinois].1 1 March 1875, Anna and her husband, [ROF:Household Head] were listed on the State Census at Monmouth Township, Shawnee County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were C. B. Snodgrass [47 Tennessee], Anna [32 llinois], Nancy [17 Illinois], Sarah [15 Illinois], Sidney [13 Illinois], Nettie [11 Illinois], Anna [7 Illinois], Emma [5 Kansas] & George [1 Kansas]. C. B. is a huxter and Anna is a farmer. [Sheet 13, line 8] 22 June 1880, Anna and her husband Ceburn were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Juction Township, Osage County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Ceburn Snodgrass [55 Tennessee], Anne E. [42 Illinois], Sarah E. [21 Illinois][notes died June 9], Sydney F. [17 Illinois], Nettie [14 Illinois], Anne [11 Illinois], Emma [10 Illinois]. George C. [6 Illinois], Eva [3 Illinois].2 18 June 1900, Anna was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Williamsburg Township, Franklin County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were John F. Hammick [28 Feb 1875 - 25 Missouri], Eva [7 Apr 1877 - 23 Kansas], Emma [25 Feb 1897 - 3 Kansas], Cleda H. 18 Sep 1899 - 8 mo. Kansas], mother-in-law: Anna E. Snodgrass [27 Dec 1838 - 61 Illinois]. John & Eva had been married 4 years with 2 children, both living. Anna is a widow with 1 child, 1 living.3 15 January 1920, the U.S. Federal Census listed Anna in the household of her daughter at Williamsburg Township, Franklin County, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Frank Hannock [44 Missouri], his wife: Eva [42 Kansas], Annie [15 Kansas], Mae [12 Kansas] & mother-in-law: Annie Snodgrass [81 Illinois - widow]. He is a general farmer.4 Anna died on Tuesday, 4 April 1922 at Quenemo, Osage County, Kansas, at age 83 years, 3 months and 8 days at the home of her daughter Eva. She had been in ill health for thirty years, since the death of her husband. [Obituary - Ottawa Herald, 5 April 1922] Anna was laid to rest on 6 April 1922 in the Curry Cemetery, Quenemo, Osage County, Kansas.
