     Augustus was born on Friday, 21 June 1861 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He was the son of Lewis Thomas Ives and Margaret Wright Leggett. Augustus married Margaret Eugenia Schnoor. Augustus's wife, Margaret, died in 1897 at age 27 years, leaving him a widower. On 1 June 1900, Augustus was listed on the US Federal Census at 294 Bush Street, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Augustus W. Ives [August 1863 - 36 Michigan][widow], Minnie L. Ives [April 1845 - 55 New York][widow][mother], Nina Wilson [February 1878 - 22 Canada][servant], Lenard Carley [May 1875 - 25 England][border]. Augustus was a physician. Minnie had eight children, three living.2 Augustus married Julia Claire Chandler on 31 July 1901 at Massachusetts. Augustus had his early schooling in Detroit. From 1878 to 1881, he studied at the College de France, Paris, France, and Heidelberg University, Germany. In 1891, he attended the Detroit College of Medicine, M.D. In the summer of 1904, he did his post-graduate course in Vienn. In 1891, he became engaged in practice in Detroit. He was professor of physiology and nervous diseases at the Detroit College of Medicine, He was a visiting neurologist to St. Mary's Hospital. He was a member of the Wayne County Medical Society, the Michigan State Medical Society, the American Medical Association. He was a Republican. His religion was Unitarian. He was a member of the Nu Sigma Nu. Club: the Detroit Boat Club. Recreations: Automobiling, fungi. His office and residence were at 24 W. Moncalm St. while in Detroit. The family later moved to Birmingham living on Southfield Road near Lincoln. They later removed to Alexandria, Virginia where they resided with their daughter Margaret. 16 April 1910, Augustus and his wife, Julia, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Augustus W. Ives [49 Michigan], Claire C. [36 New York], Margaret [7 Michigan], Chandler [4 Michigan], Edith Peck [25 Canada], Florence Peck [21 Canada]. He was married eight years with four children, two living. He was living at 24 Moutealou West. He was a physician being a nerve specialist.3 10 January 1920, Augustus and his wife, Julia, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Augustus W. Ives [58 Michigan], Claire C. [46 New York], Margaret [16 Michigan], Chandler [14 Michigan]. They lived on 139 Esson Street. Augustus was a medical physician.4 4 April 1930, Augustus and his wife, Julia, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at the Village of Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Augustus W. Ives [69 Michigan], Claire [55 New York], Margaret [25 Michigan]. They were living at 1088 East Lincoln Ave. Margaret was a psychological at the children's clinic.5 4 April 1940, Augustus and his wife, Julia, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at 1088 Southfield Road, Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Augustus Ives [79 Michigan], his wife: Cliare [65 New York] & Margaret [36 Michigan]. Highest grade reached in school: Augustus & Margaret was post graduate and Claire was high school. Augustus is a physician & Margaret is a physiotherapist. Margaret's salary was $3,400.6 Augustus departed this life circa 1953 at Alexandria, Virginia. Augustus was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.7
