_______ __________ and a great Career was prophetized for her.

Eugenia Schnoor Ives, the beautiful and accomplished wife of Dr A. W. Ives, of this city, died in Nice, France, on Monday, where she had gone for the benefit of her health.
Mrs. Ives was but 26 years of age and for the past three years she has been ailing with consumption. She was the daughter of a prominent New Baltimore citizen, but when very young manifested a great liking for music, and came to Detroit to study. She made great progress in her musical efforts, and gave such promise of a brilliant future, that she determined to spend a few years in Germany under the instructions of the leading German musicians. She returned from Germany about three years ago and soon afterwards married Dr. Ives. A couple of years ago she commenced to show symptoms of consumption, and since then everyting has been done to restore her to health. Some months were spent in Santa Fe, and when she returned she was apparently greatly improved. The climate soon proved too much for her, and a sojourn in southern France was decided upon. Mrs. L. T. Ives accompanied her, and they left here last December. A couple of weeks ago Dr. Ives received a cablegram from Nice summoning him to attend his wife and to bring her back to Detroit, as she was getting worse. [Detroit Journal - 7 April 1897]

She was buried in Nice, France.

  1. [S33] Note, Miss Eugenia Schnoor, from Detroit, has studied with me since November 1892. Her voice is a soprano of great compass and strength, capable of filling even now a large concert hall. But it is not only the voice which awakens the greatest interest, but rather the phenomenal and exceptional talent of the young artist which fills those who hear her play on the piano or sing a solo with astonishment and pleasure. My friend Moszkowski has, perhaps , a still higher estimate of his pupil than I, but it is impossible owing to the short length of time of her vocal study to judge of the capabilities which such great talent bespeaks. I can, however, with all truth and assurance, say that for many years I have not met with such undoubted musical talent.
Julius Hey, Royal Professor - Berlin, May 21, 1893.

Moritz Moskowski's words are no less flattering. He says: “She possesses most remarkable talent, which manifests itself in everyt department of her art, amnd has reached a grade of excellence in her studies which places her far in the path of artistic independence.”.
