     Anna was born on Tuesday, 20 November 1849 at Shanghai, Shanghai Municipalilty, China. She was the daughter of Dr. Mathew T. Yates, clergyman of Shanghai, China & Eliza Emmeline Moring.1 Anna married John Ferris Seaman, son of Valentine Seaman II and Anna Amelia Ferris, in 1868 in Shanghai, China. Her married name was Seaman. June 1880, Annaand her husband, John were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York, at South Clover Street. Enumerated in this household were John Seaman [34 New York], Annie [29 Massachusetts], Charles [10 New York], William [4 New York]. He is a cooper.2 4 June 1900, Annaand her husband, and her husband, John were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Peekskill, Dutchess County, New York, at North Bridge Street. Enumerated in this household were John Seaman [55 New York - September 1846], his wife: Annie L. [51 New York - July 1849] & son: William [24 New York - September 1875]. They had been married 32 years with 4 children, two living. John is a broker & William is an electrician.3 2 May 1910, Annaand her husband, John were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York, at North Road. Enumerated in this household were John F Seaman [66 New York], Annie Y [61 China] & a daughter, Josephine Gaskin [38 England]. The couple had been married 39 years; he was a merchant working for a commission.4 Anna's husband, John, died on 26 August 1915 in his summer home in Bar Harbor, Hancock County, Maine, leaving her a widow.5,6 Anna departed this life on Monday, 15 August 1927 in La Jolla, San Diego County, California, at age 77 years, 8 months and 26 days. She was buried in Manhattan, New York City, New York, in Woodlawn Cemetery.7
