     Richard was born on Friday, 2 December 1859 at Princeton, Bureau County, Illinois. He married Grace Pershing on 5 June 1890. 1 June 1900, Richard and his wife, Grace, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Fort Leavenworth, Military Reservation, Kansas. Enumerated in this household were Richard B. Paddock [40 Illinois - Decdember 1859], Grace [31 Missouri - March 1869], Richard B. Jr. [9 Wyoming - April 1891], May [7 Missouri - October 1892 & servant: Benjamin Everett [13 New York - January 1887]. They have been married 10 years with 2 children, both living. Richard was a captain in the U.S. Army.1 Richard departed this life before 9 March 1901 in Beijing, Beijing Muncipality, China, in the Boxer Rebellion. He was buried on 20 May 1901 at Princeton, Bureau County, Illinois, in Oakland Cemetery.2
