Edmund Underhill

     Edmund was born on Sunday, 29 August 1790 at Yorktown, Westchester County, New York. He was the son of Robert & Mary [Hallock] Underhill. Edmund married Phebe Jane Ferris, daughter of Elijah Ferris and Phebe Haviland, on 17 March 1817. He was a merchant in New York City between 1812 & 1840. 16 November 1850, Edmund and his wife, Phebe, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the town of Westchester, Westchester County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Edmund Underhill [59 New York], Phebe J. [57 New York], Elijah [19 New York], Mary A. Farquahar [7 New York], Anna [3 New York], Elizabeth Wood [18 Ireland] & James Bolwan [24 New York]. Edmund and his son are listed as farmers and the farm is valued at $10,000.1 13 July 1870, Edmund and his wife, Phebe, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the town of Westchester, Westchester County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Edmund Underhill [79 New York], Phoebe [72 New York], E. Ferris [38 New York], Mary Larquahar [23 New York] & Anna [22 New York]. Their real estate was valued at $25,000. Elijah was a merchant, E. Ferris was a Rail Road Clerk and Anna was a school teacher.2





Edmund departed this life on Friday, 16 February 1872 in New York City at age 81 years, 5 months and 18 days.3 He was buried at Manhattan in Greenwood Cemetery.
