     Charlton was born on Monday, 22 August 1808 at Grove Farm, Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York. Charlton married Anna Seaman, daughter of Dr. Valentine Seaman and Anna Ferris, on 10 October 1842 in Princes Bay, Staten Island. Saturday, October 22, 1842 - 10th inst. Princes Bay, S.I. Charlton Ferris if Throgs Neck, Westchester County to Anna Seaman dau of late Dr. Valentine of this city. [New York Evening Post]. They are first cousins. 18 November 1850, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in West Farms. Enumerated in this household were Charlton Ferris [41 New York], Anna A. [38 New York], Anna A. [6 New York], Charlton [3 New York], Amelia [77 New York], William L. [45 New York], Delikiah Cally [76 New York], Ellen Herrigan [18 Ireland], Elija Lanton [31 New York][black], & Catherine Hicky [17 Ireland]. William L. Ferris is a horticulturalist.1 22 August 1860, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the town of Westchester. Enumerated in this household were Charlton Ferris [50 New York], Anna [43 New York], Anna [17 New York], J Charlton [13 New York], Farmer: Francis Rowley [42 Ireland], Laborers: Michael Gleen 43 Ireland], John Gleen [44 Ireland], James Dwier [21 Ireland], John Dwier [13 Ireland], Domestics: Bridget Yye [30 Ireland] & Cath Gleason [43 Ireland]. Their real estate was valued at $30,000.2 15 July 1870, Charlton and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Westchester. Enumerated in this household were Charlton Ferris [60 New York], his wife: Anna [58 New York], children: Anna [25 New York], domestic servant: Margaret Burns [45 Ireland], Mary Burns [50 Ireland], laborer: Michael Burns [17 Georgia], William Ferris [61 New York]. William Ferris is keeping a nursery.3 Charlton died Wednesday, 5 July 1871 at Throgs Neck at Grove Farm at age 62 years, 10 months and 13 days of pneumonia. He was buried in Ferris Family Burying Ground at Grove Farm. The inscription on his tombstone reads: 22 Aug 1808-5 July 1871.4 On 4 May 1896, his wife purchased burial lots in Detroit at Woodmere Cemetery before having her son's and husband's coffins removed from the Ferris Burying Ground and brought to Detroit. He was then reinterred on 16 May 1896 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, in Woodmere Cemetery.5
