Peter and Nancy Bowerman
Peter was born on Sunday, 24 April 1803 at East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. On 3 July 1803, Peter was christened at Fetterolf St. Peter's Lutheran & Reformed Church, Armstrong Valley, Dauplin County, Pennsylvania. The record showed his parents: Jo. Bauerman & Veronica Keith & his sponsors: Peter & Elizabeth Keiter.1 Peter married Anna "Nancy" Shoffstall, daughter of Solomon IM Shoffstall and Catharina Haag, circa 1829 at Pennsylvania. 1830, Peter was listed on the US Federal Census at Jackson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Enumerated in this household were Peter Bowerman [1 male under 5, 1 male 15-20, 1 female 20-30][We feel this was in error & Peter should have been placed in 20-30 group]. [page 17] 26 September 1850, Peter and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Bloom Township, Seneca County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Peter Bowerman [46 Pennsylvania], Nancy [40 Pennsylvania]. Daniel [20 Pennsylvania], Michael [16 Ohio], Catharina [12 Ohio], John [10 Ohio], Henry [7 Ohio], Betsy [4 Ohio], Peter [3 Ohio], William [6/12 Ohio]. [page 525] 28 June 1860, Peter and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Salem Township, Stuben County, Indiana. Enumerated in this household were Peter Bowerman [57 Pennsylvania farmer], Nancy [50 Pennsylvania], John [20 Ohio], Henry [16 Ohio], Elizabeth [14 Ohio], Peter [12 Ohio], William [10 Ohio]. The post office was Turkey Creek. [page 525] 21 August 1870, Peter and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Prairie Township, Kosciusko County, Indiania. Enumerated in this household were Peter [76 Pennsylvania] Sarah Shively [35 Pennsylvania][housekeeper], Ann [60 Pennsylvania][wife], William [20 Ohio]. [Page 25, line 38] Peter departed this life on Wednesday, 16 September 1885 at Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana, at age 82 years, 4 months and 23 days. Obituary: Peter Bowerman, who has been living with his son in Pipestone, rescently went on a visit to Warsaw, Ind., and died there last week. He was an old resident of this county, and was in his eighty-third year. The body was shipped back to Pipestone, and buried in Maple Grove church yard Sunday. The funeral was an unusually large one. Peter was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, Berrien Township, Berrien County, Michigan. He was age 82 years. Peter was the son of Johannes & Veronika Bowerman as noted by his christening record. There is contraversey as to which Johannes he is the son ie Johannes Sr. with Veronica as a second wife or son Johannes Jr. with Veronica as a first wife. At this point, we contend that he is the son of Johannes Jr. Johannes Jr. has 3 sons one daughter in 1810 which would include Peter. In 1830, Peter resides near Sarah, Johannes' widow & their son Michael. We find no census with Johannes Sr. He was a resident of Bloom Twp., Seneca County, Ohio in 1850,
